I would like to know about value of correspondence MBA Or PGDBM. Can HR professionals suggest or give your views on it ? . A friend of mine with 7 years of experience in IT is planning to do Masters. Mostly MBA in IT or PGDBM courses. It will not be possible to leave current job & pursue full time MBA due to family commitments.
Few of shortlisted courses are, (All are distance education)
- MBA in Information Systems (Sikkim Manipal University)
- MBA from IGNOU
- PGDBM from XLRI
- PGDBM from Symbiosis Pune
- Can anyone suggest recognized colleges/Universities from where one can finish MBA or PGDBM courses for an IT professional ?
- IT companies like TCS says clearly No Correspondence course, Then how a person gets master degree without leaving job ?
- Please share difference between MBA by correspondence & Executive MBA as well your views on various courses & its value of it in IT company for future growth?

If he have 7 years of work experience & cannot attend the full time program then he can opt for a part time MBA or for Ex- MBA .He can get the desired specialization.
PGDM is equivalent to MBA. It can b done full time as well as in distance learning. Its a 2yrs program .Can get the desired specialization.
If you have to compare between MBA & PGDM . MBA is better.
If you want to go for correspondence MBA, you have to choose any open universities or private institute. They are not AICTE approved hence the value of the certificates are less. If you want to upgrade your qualification or trying for a promotion with in the firm then these certificates can help you.
AICTE approved MBA is of 3 years you need to give entrance exam like CAT, ZAT,MAT .You have to get through any one of these exam ...thereafter the GDPI…. for the admission purpose, whereas for correspondence you can get direct admission.
The universities which you have mentioned is an open university. IGNOU is also a good one they have got entrance exam before the admission. I don’t know about XLRI but Symbiosis is one of the prominent institute & comes under Top 10 B-schools. They don’t provide MBA in correspondence . PGDM in correspondence can be done.

Best Distance Education Courses and Institutes
Dear Vinayan,
As you are a Diploma holder in engineering with 19 yrs of work experience, you can go for BE.AMIE is the best institute .Its an central government recognized. It’s a 3 yrs program . Being a diploma holder you can get it done with in 2 or 11/2 yrs but your diploma should be any university recognized. thereafter you wish to go for an MBA.. you can. Private institute provides MBA to the diploma holders but they are not AICTE approved.
I doubt whether ur AIIMAS certificate will work for getting an admission for engineering .You need to find out.Whereas the validation of your AIIMAS certificate for getting a job is concerned .It depends, firm to firm. They may or may not work . If it worked, being a diploma u will b allotted for an engineering works (depending upon your skills) but then when it comes to your promotion. The firm will not try to break their ethics, even if ur highly skilled.
I will recommend u to go for a BE even though it will take some of ur years but at the end of the day u will b in a satisfaction level.I hope, I had cleared some of ur doubts.
