Tourism Management System

For any organization the generation and maintenance of various data and information is one of the primary things looked after. The various information collected, as different sets of data have to be linked well to make it serve to full potential. A constant availability of accurate, current, timely, relevant and useful information is a must to attain the objectives of the organization. For this purpose, an effective information system should be able to provide information to those who need it; at the time and in the way they need it.
This project work is being done at ‘The Great Indian Tours’, one of the major tourism agencies in Cochin. The project is to develop a software package for Tourism Management System for The Great Indian Tours. The Tourism Management system should provide details regarding various types of tourism packages, accommodation and facilities provided and the tourist details handled at The Great Indian Tours. This application software uses VISUAL BASIC 6.0 as the front-end. This software has to work in WINDOWS platform.

Tourism Management System

1. INTRODUCTION

All transactions take place at the front office. The tourists reaching the agency come up with different requirements. We arrange tours to particular locations depending on the requirements of the clients and we also arrange tourism packages. The Tourism Management System should provide details regarding tourists, vehicle, accommodation, location, package and expenses. This application software uses VISUAL BASIC 6.0 as the Front-end and ORACLE as the back-end. This software has to work in WINDOWS platform.

THE EXISTING SYSTEM

The Existing system is a tedious work due to manual data handling of records. Manual search is lower and increases the time required for the details Manual Data handling leads to the wastage of money and time. The speed and accuracy is less in the existing system. There is a chance of occurring manual errors while handling the transactions at the agency

2.1 Limitations of the Existing System

The system expanded at The Great India Tours for Tours for tourism management is purely manual and not yet computerized. There are various drawbacks for the existing system. They are
1) Not very user friendly
2) Errors may occur while entering the data
3) Maintenance of files becomes cumbersome
4) Searching report is a tedious job
5) Time consuming

THE PROPOSED SYSTEM

The main aim of the proposed system is to overcome the drawbacks of existing manual system. In order to concert the existing system to proposed system some modifications have to be made. Repetitions, difficulty in storing large amount of data, difficulty in extraction of needed information’s were the main drawbacks of the manual system. Proposed system is capable of providing quick up-to-date information’s. In proposed system user is provided with a choice of data entry screens, which are similar in format with, source documents. This is a highly interphone and is achieved by Visual Basic.

Our aim is to provide software for Tourism management handled at The Great India Tours by avoiding the drawbacks of existing manual system. The major section of project is aimed at the printing the reports needed by the department. The reports may be printed according to the choice, i.e.monthly, yearly etc. The proposed system will contain a central database consisting of details of ship based on a vessel code. The package will be on windows operating system and database will be built in ORACLE and software will be Visual Basic 6.0

The greatest advantage of the proposed system is that it will reduce the required manpower. The proposed system will reduce to a great extend the manual paper work which is repetitive and hence the number of people to do work.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENT SPECIFICATION

The software requirements specification is produced at the culmination of the analysis task. The function and performance allocated to software as part of system engineering are refined by establishing a complete information description. The introduction states the goals and objective of the software, describing it in the contest of the computer – based system Information content and relationships,
Flow and structure are documented. Hardware, software, and human interfaces are described for external system elements and internal software functions.

A description of each function required to solve the problem is presented in the functional description .Probably the most important, and ironically, the most often neglected section of a software requirement specification is validation criteria. Specification of validation criteria acts as an implicit review of all other requirements. It is essential that time and attention be given to this section. The bibliography contains references to all documents related that to the software.

CONCLUSION

The software has been developed to plug the loopholes in the existing system. This software has been developed as a simulated system based on the discussions with the staff of the Great India Tours. The software mainly deals with the transactions at the agency. Various security measures for the maintenance of the system were taken into account. The system has been built around some of the most demanding requirement user
