  • census, quality control of industrial products, forest science, police services including criminology, forensic science, the control of crime and road accidents etc.,
  •   national security, insurance, risk management, engineering, financial analysis, market analysis and marketing, stock market, psychology, IT, research surveys…

 statistics finds its application in anything and everything. The actuaries who determine the financial impact of risk and uncertainty on the grounds of statistics is the key people behind insurance.

Financial analysis has acquired an unprecedented status, now a day. It basically doesn’t matter whether you are a qualified Chartered Financial Analyst or not. What counts is whether you are able to apply the theories of statistics all the time. The survival of industries and share markets thoroughly depends on the principles of statistics. Data ware housing and business intelligence which make use of the information technology services won’t be perfect unless backed up by statistical calculations.

All the above mentioned fields including research, offer job opportunities in bulk. An M.Sc. Statistics post-graduate has the options of being either a researcher or teaching faculty in colleges, once he or she passes the National Eligibility Test. They also have the option of joining the Statistical Services conducted in the every year. Statistics bachelors’ degree holders can become statistical investigators if they pass the examinations conducted by Staff Selection Commission.

Government Statistics Departments, Bureaus, Central Government Statistical Organization, National Sample Survey Organization, Census Organization of India, Population Research Units, and Planning Boards etc. also offer job opportunities for statistics degree and post graduate degree holders.
