RIT College , Kottayam presents ENSEMBLE 2009

Ensemble2009 is based on theme of Freedom and Innovation. Freedom and Innovation as in FREE SOFTWARE. Free software is based on the concept of 4 freedoms which enable us to use the software in any way we want,
to study the source code, modify it and redistribute the original copy or the modified version. In Ensemble2009 we try to promote the theme through our events , seminars , workshops and exhibition .Ensemble2009 is our third consecutive technical fest after successful Ensemble 2007 and 2008. Having been able to ensure a participation of over 100 colleges for the previous installments, Ensemble2009 is also an assured success.

About RIT College

      Rajiv Gandhi Institute Of Technology (Govt. Engineering College,Kottayam)is one of the top level engineering colleges in Kerala. RIT started functioning in 1991 named after late Prime Minister Mr.Rajiv Gandhi, this institution was with a view of making it a center of excellence for Post Graduate and Research studies. Over the years it has developed a vast infrastructure and attained a remarkable place as a technical training institute .The campus extends over 86 Acres.The courses offered by RIT are affiliated to MG University,Kottayam and approved by AICTE .

Department Of Computer Science & Engineering

          The Dept. Of Computer Science & Engg.,the youngest of all other engineering departments too has recorded a consistent growth. Established in 1999 it has become a full fledged department with advanced lab facilities to train the students to meet the current needs of fast changing industrial scenarios. The Dept. Of Computer Science & Engg. is accredited by NBA for 3 Years .

  Ensemble2009

          Ensemble2009 is an ultimate arena where the erudite engineers of tomorrow challenges each other on a fascinating journey through the enigmatic world of seemingly endless collection of codes ,puzzles & exhilarating brainy events.This event provides a platform for those smart students from different colleges to exhibit their pure genius .

Event 1  

               
A code working in both GNU/Linux and Windows will be provided. It would have logical and syntax errors. The participants should correct the syntax and logical errors and produce the correct output in minimum time. The output of the correct code will be shown beforehand and the participants are not allowed to change the basic logic of the code. If none of the teams produce the correct output, marks will be based on the errors corrected.

Event 2   

Questions related to Web/Networking/WebTools/Security could be asked for preliminary round. There are 30 questions in prelims. In the final round, we will provide a theme and you must design a web site related to that theme. Void links causes negative marks. Desigining can be done either in GNU/Linux or Windows platform. For Microsoft Windows platform we will provide Adobe Photoshop CS3, Macromedia Flash 8 and Macromedia Dreamweaver MX. For GNU/Linux platform the tools like Gimp will be provided. No additional tools (including templates and softwares) are allowed.

Event 3    

Preliminary round has 45 questions (multiple choice type with 5 options). In finals participants will be informed about the total number of viruses present in the system. You must heal all of them without using any Anti-virus softwares. Simple tools will be provided, if the participant requires it. But using it lead to negative marks. Scores will be calculated on the basis of number of viruses removed from the system. Cleared virus name and path to the cleared files should be written on the answer sheet. Usage of External storage devices are strictly prohibited. No GNU/LINUX option for this event.

Event 4   

Preliminary :-

The participants should bring their short films in order to participate in preliminary round. The short film should not exceed 12 minutes. There should be a theme for your short film. The short films should be submitted to the ENSEMBLE committee on Feb19th for the purpose of screening. The selected short films after the screening will be displayed on the day of contest(February19th). Best four short films from round-1 will be selected to the 2nd round. The prizes for short film competition will be based on their performance in round-2. Separate registration is provided for the short film (Rs.100/- per team).

Final (Bulb) :-

The teams of best four short films from round-1 will be contesting in round-2 which is to be held on February 20th. The bulb program is fully conducted and managed by Indiavision YES channel. A particular topic will be provided for each team and they should prepare their short film based on that. A team should be ready with the idea to shoot (rough script) based on the topic given to them. Artists for each team should be from among themselves. The camera works and editing works are fully done by Indiavision YES channel and the teams need not bother about that. The movie will be shot and edited on the basis of directions given by the Director of the team. All the four movies in the final round will be telecast in the Indiavision YES channel. The judging will be strictly done by ENSEMBLE committee members and Indiavision technicians. The decisions of the judges will be final.

 Event 5    

A theme will be provided on the spot and the participant should submit 3 different photos ( not different angles of the same scene ) based on that theme. Camera must be of resolution 2 MegaPixel or more (Mobile phones can be used). No need to take the print of the photos, only soft-copies are required (Data cables, Pendrive, CD’s etc must be brought). Judges’ decision is final.

 Event 6   

Counter Strike 1.6 (Map: de_dust2) will be used. There will be 6 Rounds (3 Counter-terrorists and 3 Terrorists) per stage. Gamers may bring their own keyboards, mice and headphones. Cheats are not allowed. Separate registration for each team-mate (Rs.50/- per head).

 Event 7

 Event 8 

  
The prelimiary round will have subjective type questions. The best four teams scoring the maximum in prelims will be selected for finals. Some questions will be based on the theme of free software movement and participants should come prepared for it.
