Research Projects Areas in CDAC Noida Centre

Health Informatics Projects:

CDAC is involved in development of Health Informatics and Management
Information Management System (HIMS) in various hospitals across the country. It is also developing Picture Archival and Communication System for Storage of Medical Images, and retrieval and transmission of the same over backbone networks. Standardization of Electronic Medical Records, HL7 and Dicom standards, Interfacing Issues and Telemedicine are other important areas of research.
The research fellows interested in this area can take up related development that will have immediate applicability in the systems being implemented by the Centre. A number of challenges exist in each of these. Candidates should have good understanding of Image Processing,
Software Engineering, OOPS and Networking Technologies.

E-governance, Software Testing Projects:

The centre has a number of live projects involving novel concepts in software engineering. It has a Data Centre with more than 60 Servers, more than 1000 in-house computers and many different applications: prominently in the area of e- Governance. This gives a rich basis for doing original research and development in Software Engineering pertinent to these application areas.
Possible research projects include development of Decision Support System, Design of Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery Tools, Development of alternate man-machine interface more appropriate to the Indian environment, Development of Free and Open Software Solutions tuned to the Indian environment, Implementation of Indian Language Technologies in the e-Governance Applications required by various State Governments and educational institutes, development in e- Education and e-Security solutions etc. The various projects and platforms available at the centre could be used as the breeding ground for research and development.
We emphasis on quality throughout its delivery processes & shown impressive improvements in delivery capabilities, client satisfaction. We are committed to creating innovating Testing solutions to challenging technical projects by using the range of customized service models which are aligned with our client’s needs and goals.

Language Technology Projects :

The areas of on-going research work in Language Technology are :
  1. Optical Character Recognition for Indian Languages
  2. Speech Synthesis for Indian Languages
  3. Machine Translation between English and Indian Languages
  4. Digital Library and Content Creation
  5. Creation of Speech and Text Corpora.

Language Technology offers good scope for original research. An understanding of Speech Technology, Image Processing, Digital Signal Processing and Software Engineering is required. A number of DIT sponsored projects in this area are in various stages of implementation in the Centre. The Centre has a rich set of Text and Speech Corpora. These are a invaluable use for research activities.

Embedded Systems Projects:

The National RFID Programme, presently undergoing in the Centre, is a
major research initiative between C-DAC, IIT, Kanpur and SAMEER. Researchers will have opportunities to develop the basic reader, software and hardware interfaces, middleware and end-to-end solutions. The field has a lot of potential in the development of Ubiquitous Computing - considered as the next wave in Computing Technology. These include development of new architecture for Ubiquitous Computing, development of new middleware solutions incorporating other devices like Barcode Readers, GPS, Biometric Identification, etc. and development of new
applications for the technology.
Additionally Research Fellow’s are expected to :
  • To develop research projects to strengthen and expand the existing programme.
  • To devise, and contribute to the development of proposals for external funding of research
  • To publish/present in high quality peer reviewed national and international journals/conference
  • To generate and pursue independent and original research ideas in the field of research and support the initiation of new lines of research in related areas
  • To provide guidance to other staff and students in own specialist area, including supervising and assessing undergraduate projects
  • To take part in knowledge-transfer activities, including collaborative meetings with other research groups
  • To maintain knowledge and understanding within the field/specialism
