Model Finishing School

A Government of Kerala (GoK) undertaking, the Model Finishing School is a joint initiative of the IT Department, GoK and the Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD), with the support of industry-major Infosys. The IHRD is responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the institution.

Admission Notification

An oft-voiced and addressed concern with regard to education and employment is that candidates with goodacademic credentials are not able to get prestigious employment opportunities. Experts in this line ofthought opine that the students, though educated are seldom employable, as they lack skills in areas which are most sought after by the industry. To overcome this and to ensure that the youth are able to secure employment in desired levels, the
Government of Kerala has taken the first step by setting up the Model Finishing School in the capital city of Thiuvananthapuram. The Model Finishing School is a joint initiative of IT Department, Government of Kerala and Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD), with the support of Infosys. IHRD is the co-ordinating agency and is overseeing the day-to-day functioning of the Model Finishing School.

Training

The training at Model Finishing School is aimed at moulding students before they step into employment. Providing such training would have twin benefits, firstly, the students are well-prepared to enter the job market, which will positively impact their productivity at the workplace and secondly, companies will be spared of the huge amounts of investments required in pre-employment training, especially in areas like soft skills. The 45-day training would include technical and soft skills besides English language skills. Individual attention and rigorous evaluations are the hallmarks of the course. The students are put through various activities to help them overcome inhibitions of any sort and realize their full potential. Regular home assignments are given to strengthen classroom learning. Extra support is also given to weaker students. Training will be held at the Finishing School premises, Science and Technology Museum Complex, PMG Junction, Trivandrum. The intake of this batch will be 90.

Faculty

Training will be provided by faculty members drawn from diverse fields and trained by Infosys.
Training Fee
The fee for this training is Rs.20,000 including working lunch and tea on all days of training. Meritorious and successful candidates will be given scholarship upon the completion of the training.

Eligibility & Selection

Unemployed B.Tech(all branches) / MCA / M.Sc ( Computer Science / IT ) graduates with an aggregate minimum of 60 per cent and belonging to Kerala are eligible to apply Candidates who have complete the course as a Full Time academic program alone need apply. Selection will be based solely on merit after rigorous scrutiny of applications. Reservation as per Government of Kerala norms for professional courses will be allowed. The list of selected candidates will be
made available in this website after 12th January 2009.

Application Forms

Completed applications together with attested copies of certificates and a DD for Rs.100 (Rs.50 for SC/ST) drawn in favour of ‘The Director, Model Finishing School”, payable at’ Thiruvananthapuram’ should reach on or before 10th January 2009 at the address given below. If candidates eligible for mandatory reservation do not produce relevant certificates, they will not be considered under that category. The name and address of the candidates should be clearly written on the reverse of the Demand Draft.
