Mechanical Project - GANTRY CRANE

The aim of our project is to improve a crane based on the operation of gantry crane ,the function of a gantry crane is to transport the material from place to another outside the yard. This crane moves on rail at high speed and carries more weight.

Based on the principle our unit can also be used inside the factory, shop floor .i.e. transporting of material from inspection to store etc.It consists of a base made up of channels. Rollers are provided at the bottom for movement.Over the base there are two columns, which is bended at the top. It helps to load the materials from the trucks.

A cross bar is made simply supported over the top of the column. A chain block is placed in the centre of the cross bar .the design comprises to take materials from truck by moving the unit in between the rear wheels of the truck. The major advantage of our project is to take materials in batches or boxes directly from trucks without any human intervention.

This is also used to dismantle the engine from the chassis and to keep the serviced engine back to its position with out much human effort. Since the columns of J.S.J standard more loads can be taken. The steering system helps to turn the unit either left or right. Since the rollers are provided with thrust bearing the movement will be easy.
