All India Management Association (AIMA) Management Aptitude Test (MAT) or better known only as MAT is a comprehensive exam conducted for the students seeking admission to the post graduate management courses. MHRD (ministry of Human Resource Development) and GOI (government of India) have approved MAT for offering MBA, PGDM and many other PG courses such as MCA etc.

Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is an entrance exam  for admission to the post graduate management courses throughout various management institutes in the country. Through MAT management aspirants can get admission to a very large number of management institutes throughout the country therefore MAT is very popular among the management aspirants. MAT is conducted four times a year. Next MAT entrance is in September 2009 whose scores will be valid throughout the management institutes for admission in 2010. Earlier MAT was a paper based test but from next time the candidates will have an option to either give MAT as a paper based test or an online test.

    Eligibility:

    Graduate in any discipline from a recognized university. Final year Degree Course students can also apply for the examination despite being under graduate.

    How to Apply for September MAT:

     To obtain MAT Bulletin and Application Form by post, send a Demand Draft of Rs.1050/- to AIMA-CMS, drawn in favour of “All India Management Association” payable at New Delhi alongwith two self-addressed slips/adhesive stickers. Send your request to The Manager-CMS, All India Management Association, Management House, 14, Institutional Area, Lodhi Road, New Delhi-110 003.                                                                                    OR

    Obtain MAT Bulletin and Application Form on cash payment of Rs 980/-(Nine Hundred Eighty only) at AIMA counter at Delhi (Tel:- 24653382), select Bank of Baroda (BoB) Branches, AIMA Nodal Centres and other outlets .Bank of Baroda Branches (Click Here), AIMA Nodal Centres and other outlets.

      Management Aptitude Test - September MAT Test Pattern :

      MAT Entrance exam has 200 multiple choice questions which are to be attempted in two and a half hours. The questions are from these five sections:

      •     Language Comprehension: 40 questions
      •     Data Interpretation/Data sufficiency: 40 questions
      •     Quantitative Aptitude: 40 questions
      •     Logical and Critical reasoning: 40 questions
      •     General Awareness: 40 questions

        Marking scheme:

        For every correct attempt you will be awarded 1 mark and there is nothing

        specified for negative marking.

        2009 September MAT  - Frequently Asked Questions 

        Q. When & how many times MAT is conducted in a year? Qualification & percentage needed for it. 

        A. Mat is usually conducted 4 times in a year in February, May, September and December. The minimum qualification for appearing in MAT is graduation in any discipline from any recognized University or equivalent recognized degree. A final year student in any undergraduate (i.e. B.A, B.Sc., B.Com., B.Tech., etc) can also appear provisionally. Usually, there is a minimum percentage requirement in graduation, which is different for different MIs/University. For this refer to the prospectus of the particular MIs/University. 

        Q. How many Management Institutes participate in MAT. Do they keep on changing or remain the same? Is there a same admission criterion for each & every Institute? Are they recognized, by AICTE? Do they have hostel facility? What about the total fee?

        A. The number of participating Management Institutes may vary. The number of MI’s keeps on changing from test to test. Admission criteria for every institute is different. All MIs participating in MAT are either AICTE approved or affiliated to some Universities, for further information you may contact the MIs/Universities of your choice. The list of various Management Institutes /Universities is available in MAT bulletin along with the admission notification. It may be worthwhile to go through the brochure of the Management Institutes for detailed information.

        Q. What is the cost of the Bulletin? The DD, which is to be made, should be in whose favor?

        A. At Present the cost of a MAT bulletin is Rs. 980/- by cash across the AIMA, New Delhi counter/ Select UTI Bank branches/ AIMA Nodal Centres all over India and Rs.1050/- against Demand Draft (DD) by post. DD should be made in favor of AIMA-CMS, payable at New Delhi. 

        Q. What is the validity of MAT score?

        A. Validity of the MAT score is for that particular session for most Management Institutes, but for AIMA-CME’s PGDM & PGDITM programmes, the score is valid for one year. For more detail, please visit our website:- www.aima-ind.org

        Q. What is the last date of submitting filled in MAT OMR Form?

        A. Last date for submission is mentioned in the MAT bulletin. The last date also appears in the notification released by AIMA in various national & regional newspapers. 

        Q. Do applicant has to buy the prospectus of the MI’s opted by him/her?

        A. For applying to MI’s it is suggested that the prospectus of the MI’s opted should be bought.

        Q. Is MAT held all over the country what about a person living abroad? Can he/she apply for it?

        A. MAT is conducted in all major cities in the country and in leading cities abroad. For further clarification, see MAT bulletin or contact our information centre.

        Q. Do we get a separate Admit Card for appearing in MAT?

        A. Candidate has to download his/her admit card from aima website 7 days before the Test Date with the registration form number. No separate admit card is mailed to candidate. 

        Q. Is there any age bar for it? Any Job experience required, to appear in MAT?

        A. There is no age bar. Job experience is not necessary.

        Q.Is appearance in MAT necessary for getting admission into PGDM/ MBA programme ?

        A. Yes, MAT is necessary for admission into PGDM / equivalent programmes offered by AIMA or other MIs who participate in it.
