Secondary and senior secondary teachers

Teachers do a B.Ed course which prepares them for secondary/senior secondary school. Trained Graduate Teachers are those who have B.Ed degree. Teachers of blind, deaf and dumb and mentally retarded have separate institutions.

For in service teachers some universities offer courses through correspondence. Practical orientation is given by them. Graduate degree in Art/Science which is of 4 years duration is given with teacher training by Regional Institutes of Education.

Teachers at university level

The minimum qualification required for recruiting of teachers in other than Fine Arts, management, Engineering and technology is done according to revision of scales of pay of university and college teachers by government of India. A lecturer is appointed and promoted depending on higher qualification.

For determining the eligibility for the award of Junior Research Fellowship and for determining eligibility for recruitment of lecturers National Education Test is held. A few top position holders get JRFs.

Candidates eligible for award of JRF depends on the placements finding in University/Laboratories/Institutions etc. Lecturers are appointed by UGC rules and regulations. JRF is available for five years for candidates who desire to pursue research. Candidates who qualify the test for JRF, UGC allocates them fellowship of universities.

For Lectureship in Universities and Colleges of particular state State Level Eligibility test is applied. For applying in state funded research scholarship  in department of state-aided universities candidate must qualify in SLET.

Lecturers

A good academic record with atleast 55% or equivalent grade at master’s degree level from Indian university or from a foreign university is needed for lecturers in Arts, Science, Social Sciences and Social sciences.

Lecturers in senior scale

After regular appointment and participation in refresher courses/summer institutes for 8 years in service they are appointed in other programmes of comparable quality specified by UGC. A considerably satisfactory performance appraisal report should be presented.

Lecturers (selection grade)

For getting the selection grade a senior scale lecturer with no Ph.D. degree or equivalent work and does not meet scholarship research standards must fulfill other criteria and a good record in teaching.

Readers (open selection)

Doctoral degree is required with a good academic record. Atleast 55% marks at Master’s degree should be there for candidates from outside universities.

In addition to 3 years of research degrees and eight years of experience of teaching or research is considered. Evidence of publications, contribution to educational innovation but be marked in the area of scholarships.

Readers (promotion)

To be promoted to a post of reader a lecturer must have an experience of 8 years in senior scale, has Ph. D degree made, some mark in the areas of scholarship and research, reports of referees, quality of publications, contribution to educational innovation, design of new courses and curricula and consistently good performance appraisal reports is required.

Professors

With an active engagement in research for 10 years of experience in postgraduate and experience of guiding research at doctoral level or made scholars with reputation who mage contribution to knowledge.
