BIOSPECTRUM 2009 , International Symposium organized by MACFAST
Substantial increase in food production could be achieved as a result of the green revolution. Food security is cuurrently facing challenges due to the unpredictable changes in weather and deficiency of nutritional factors. Sustanance of food production in a steady state is possible only by evolving strategies through a second/ ever green revolution to circumvent the problems created by abiotic and biotic factors.
The School of Biosciences of Mar Athanasios College for Advance Studies, Tiruvalla (MACFAST) one of the prestigious institutions under Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala, India is therefore organizing an International symposium in association with Rajiv Gandhi Center for Biotechnology (RGCB)Thiruvananthapuram on "Second Green Revolution: Priorities, programmes, social and ethical issues" during 2 -4, July, 2009 at Thiruvananthapuram and the. crops included are food crops, fruit and vegetable crops, plantation crops and spices, oil seeds, annual and perennial nut crops. The programmes included are improvement of crop productivity using modern agro techniques, biotechnology, organic farming, conventional and non conventional breeding techniques, plant protection and post harvest management programmes, recombinant DNA techniques, ethical and social issues, health related problems, functional foods etc.
Eminent speakers from India and abroad are invited to present lead lecturers on various topics .In addition to invited speakers there will be presentations of selected topics and poster presentations We encourage students and young scientists for presentation of research papers.Limited travel grants are provided to young scientists participating from India. We are hopeful of getting travel supports for the participation of international scientists from international funding agencies.
